How our map works

This interactive Google map will help you find information resources about climate change impacts and adaptation in the Arctic.

The button on the top right corner that will enable you to view the map in terrain or satellite mode, as well as a slider (+/-) to zoom in and out. There is a scale on the bottom right corner of the map.

On the left side of the map, there is a list of ‘Themes’ with color-coded, clickable boxes next to them.
How to browse adaptation information resources

If you click on the ‘Display All’ theme (white color) , all information resources uploaded to the Arctic Adaptation Exchange will be displayed.

If you click one of the other themes, only information resources tagged with that theme will be displayed.

If you click multiple themes, only information resources tagged with all the selected themes will be displayed.

When you click on a themed box, pins and circles will appear on the map.

The color the pin or circle corresponds with the primary theme associated with that information resource (e.g., Yellow = Governance; Lime Green = decision-making tools and actions, etc.), though that resource may also be tagged with multiple themes.

A pin indicates that the information resource is associated with a specific geographic area (e.g., Pond Inlet, Nunavut or Hammerfest kommune, Norway). A circle indicates that the information resource is associated with a broader jurisdiction (e.g., Norway, Alaska, etc.)

If you click on a pin or a circle, a dialog box will appear with the name of that information resource and the list of themes that it has been tagged with. Clicking on the title will bring you directly to that resource, opening a separate tab in your web browser.

Once you have clicked on a themed box, a ‘Results’ button appears in the top left corner of the map.

If you click on the results button, a dialog box will appear showing a list of resources links that you have already searched.

There are five buttons at the bottom of the results dialog box. Clicking on each enables the following functions:

  • Close: Closes the dialog box.
  • Print: Prints your search results.
  • Email: If you are a registered user and are logged on, you can enter your email address and send your search results to yourself.
  • Get as Excel: You can instantly download the results to your computer as an Excel spreadsheet.
  • Register Interest: By entering your email address, you will receive updates on the resources that you have expressed interest in.
